Why Ebenezer's Coffee?
Let's be honest, there is no shortage of places you can go to purchase coffee. If there's not a local shop or national chain within a few miles, there's at least a grocery store with a wide selection of flavors, styles and manufacturers of coffee. With all of these options availlable to you why should you choose Ebenezer's Coffee? Three reasons; Quality, Freshness, and Partnership.
Quality.
There are two main types of coffee beans, Arabica and Robusta. Robusta beans can be grown at a wide variety of altitudes and temperature climates and are the primary ingredient in the majority of store bought coffees. Robusta beans also have nearly twice the caffeine content than do Arabica beans. However, they also have much less flavor. Arabica beans, on the other hand, require much higher altitudes, warmer temperatures, and the trees take longer to grow and develop. The result is a bean that has a much more nuanced and full flavor than it's Robusta counterpart. Really great coffee begins with really great beans, that's why at Ebenezer's Coffee we roast only high quality Arabica beans.
Freshness.
At Ebenezer's Coffee the only beans sitting around in bags are green ones waiting to be roasted. That's because we understand that freshness is vital to presenting the full potential of each bean. According to the SCAA, coffee remains fresh for 7 to 10 days after roasting. After this the coffee's positive flavor characteristics quickly begin to be replaced by negative flavors, misrepresenting the true character of the bean. That's why coffee here is always roasted in small batches fresh to order and shipped within 24 hours.
Like many other roasting companies we package our coffee in a sealed bag with a one way air valve to minimize the coffees exposure to air. However, at Ebenezer's we don't use our packaging as a means to extend freshness and excuse shelf life. Quality packaging is simply one more way we seek to present you with the best product possible faithfully representing both the bean and all those before us who have played a part in its development.
Partnership.
When you purchase a bag of Ebenezer's Coffee not only are you satisfying your tastebuds, you are also participating in the advance of the Kingdom of God. Ebenezer's Coffee was founded by Ben LaPlace, Lead Pastor and cultural architect of the Church of the Nazarene at Ebenezer's. It is the result of a dream of taking money many of us already spend on coffee and releveraging it to cover salaries needed for full time ministry. As salaries are supplimented and eventually replaced, the Church of the Nazarene at Ebenezer's is then able to releverage the money raised to pay those salaries and reinvest it in the community. Think of what could happen if a Body of Believers was able to reach a point where 100% of the money gathered through tithe could go directly to practical ministry, while the cost of facilities and ministers was covered by simply releveraging money people already spend. To those of us at Ebenezer's Coffee, you are much more than just a consumer, you are a partner in ministry.
